چکیده

Abstact: In on-chip buses, the RC crosstalk effect leads to serious problems, such as wire propagation delay and dynamic power dissipation. Crosstalk noise is dominated by the coupling capacitance, resulting in wire propagation delay, logical malfunction and power dissipation on on-chip buses. Therefore, eliminating crosstalk effects have become a very important consideration in the development of the bus encoding design. This project presents two efficient bus-coding methods. The proposed methods simultaneously reduce more dynamic power dissipation and wire propagation delay than existing bus encoding methods. Our methods also reduce more total power consumption than other encoding methods. The proposed methods transform the bus signal to reduce and eliminate the worst crosstalk types, i.e. Type-4, Type-3, and Type-2. They reduce power and wire propagation delay by decreasing the switching and coupling activities.

A Bus Encoding Method for Crosstalk and Power Reduction in RC Coupled VLSI Interconnects

The performance factors such as propagation delay, power dissipation and crosstalk in RC modelled interconnects are major design issues for the System on-chip (SoC) designs in current Deep Submicron (DSM) era. The crosstalk effect is a consequence of coupling and switching activities that is encountered when there is a transition as compared to previous state of wire and or when there are trans...

Rlc Modeled Interconnects

Most of the encoding methods proposed in recent years have dealt with only RC modeled VLSI interconnects. For deep submicron technologies (DSM), on-chip inductive effects have increased due to faster clock speeds, smaller signal rise times and longer length of on-chip interconnects. All these issues raise the concern for crosstalk, propagation delay and power dissipation of overall. Therefore, ...

Temporal Redundancy Based Encoding Technique for Peak Power and Delay Reduction of On-Chip Buses

Power consumption and delay are two of the most important constraints in current-day on-chip bus design. The two major sources of dynamic power dissipation on a bus are the self capacitance and the coupling capacitance. As technology scales, the interconnect resistance increases due to shrinking wire-width. At the same time, spacing between the interconnects decreases resulting in an increase i...

Efficient Crosstalk Reduction Technique for Data Bus

Crosstalk has become the great challenge to the design community in Deep-submicron (DSM) and Very Deepsubmicron (VDSM) technologies. As the portion of silicon area for interconnects and buses is dominating, crosstalk effect also dominates in deciding the reliability and performance of the SoCs and many types of processors. These interconnect and buses are prone to errors due to crosstalk. The m...

Resource-Constrained Low Power Bus Encoding in Embedded System Design Resource-Constrained Low Power Bus Encoding in Embedded System Design

Minimizing power consumption of a bus is one of the most important design objectives in embedded system-on-chip (SoC) design and ultra deep-submicron (UDSM) technology. In this thesis, we address the problem of design space exploration of low-energy software bus encoding in embedded SoC design. Traditionally, finding a bus encoding that leads to a minimum energy consumption of a bus has been an...
